MINO REACHES 100,000 USERS IN THE FIRST SEVEN MONTHS

Sunnyvale, CA (PRWEB) September 24, 2006 -- MiNO Wireless, a Sunnyvale, CA-based mobile services company, has announced that it has reached a milestone of 100,000 users in seven months from its launch.

"The mobile VoIP space is being defined right now for consumers and enterprise users," says Jing Liu, MINO’s founder and CEO. "Consumers associated VoIP with Internet phones for a period of time, but wireless VoIP is becoming mainstream very quickly."

Most analysts and industry insiders expected that wireless VoIP would take some time to evolve, because it competes with the long distance and roaming services from the carriers. But data is becoming a bigger part of every carrier’s business and enterprises users already have the data connections to use Internet calling services. "The response to MINO service is proof that consumers are ready for wireless VoIP," explained Liu.

Media coverage of wireless VoIP is already reaching a fevered pitch. MINO has been covered on CNN, CNET, Red Herring and scores of blogs. Red Herring magazine said that VoIP on mobile is a market with immense pent-up demand, particularly among the world’s expatriate populations. In a recent article, CNET wrote about MINO as the first company to launch mobile VoIP in the US, and said, "all a caller needs for mobile VoIP is a cell phone with Internet access and the ability to store and run a VoIP program." CNN’s article on MINO announced, "VoIP is headed to your cell phone."

In addition to the carriers, wireless VoIP is attracting attention from portals, and companies who are providing wireless data connection to Skype, Vonage and similar services. There are also solutions that utilize 3G services or PDA applications to make VoIP calls. MINO uses existing wireless technology and works on existing phones in every country in the world. MINO works on more than 500 phones on the market worldwide.

MINO Wireless was founded in 2004 and has been developing the technology to connect mobile phones to the Voice-Over-IP infrastructure for two years.
