How Mino Works
MiNO Wireless delivers businesses full visibility, control, and management over their international mobile calling. It provides dramatic savings over standard international calling rates by seamlessly joining the mobile phone network with IP telephony infrastructure.
Here's how it works.The MiNO Java-based client application which is used to initiate call set-up requests, integrates fully with a device's phonebook for an easy calling experience. When you make an international call the MINO client application sends a call set-up request, a small data packet sent via a GPRS connection, to the MiNO switch. The switch authenticates, sets up and connects the call to the international contact through the best international provider for the call via a combination of global telephony and networks. This entire process is transparent to the user and typically takes only a few seconds. The complete process is shown in Figure 1 below.
Making an international call from a Blackberry using MiNO Wireless is almost identical to making a standard call. With a Blackberry, a user simply selects a contact from their address book, selects "Call with MiNO" and then "Dial" from the pop-up menus.
Users can also initiate international calls from their computer through web-based the MINO Web Call tool, setting up a call from any phone to any other phone, and receive the same quality of service and low rates as when using MiNO from their mobile device.
MiNO Web Call is a Web application that allows you to initiate international call set up requests directly from your computer. With MiNO Web Call, you enter both the phone number to dial and the number to receive the call back from the MiNO server.This second number can be any phone -- a mobile device or a land-based line.
This feature enables lower-cost global roaming for international business travelers by letting them use their smart phone or computer to set-up calls abroad to a local number, bypassing costly roaming tariffs.
Easy to Install, Easy to Maintain
The MiNO Wireless solution can be quickly deployed and maintained across a company's smartphones and devices through their existing enterprise server or administration tools. For example, MiNO's client application can be easily push deployed and maintained via the Blackberry Enterprise Server to devices company-wide. When combined with MiNO's secure on-line management tool set, companies can have the same visibility and oversight of their international mobile calling services that they currently enjoy over their domestic calling.
